Rob Ryan for Mini Moderns

After the success of the first ‘Our Adventure‘ wallpaper we didn’t hesitate when Keith and Mark at Mini Moderns suggested we work together to create a second.
Mini Moderns is an interiors brand which was launched in 2006 by Keith and Mark, they specialise in applied pattern across wallpapers, fabrics, cushions, rugs and ceramics. Mini Moderns focus on producing in the UK and work with manufacturers with whom they have developed long-standing relationships.
Rob and Libby worked together to adapt Rob’s drawings into a repeat pattern. We spent a lot of time with a large print out pinned to the wall so that we could check the scale and repeat worked well, it also helped us to imagine it as a wallpaper covering an entire wall.
After sending the design to Mini Moderns who checked the repeat we made final amends. After the design had been completely approved the artwork was laser engraved on rollers.
The rollers were then delivered to the wallpaper factory where they are printed. The machinery is very traditional and the print is applied directly onto the paper in a continuous rolling print with the paper being fed through at a high speed.
On completion of this process the wallpaper is one huge roll. It is then trimmed at the sides and then cut into 10m rolls which are then labelled and sealed.
We selected several colours to proof the wallpaper in. Between us and Mini Moderns we picked quite a few – we all agreed we loved the mustard!
Once we received the proofs we then got to the hardest part of selecting three colours for the wallpaper to be produced in. It was tough but in the end and with the help of Rob’s facebook followers we chose four!
The wallpaper is available in Ink, Mustard, China Blue and Sage and reads:
We had nothing. We had not much. We had enough. We had everything. Please don’t ever let me have too much’
The wallpaper is now available from Mini Moderns, Ryantown and our online shop.
