Ryantown Staffordshire Dogs Part 3
Posted by on Wednesday 11th March, 2015We are really excited to reveal our brand new Ryantown Staffordshire dog figures!! After modeling the shape in the studio based on Rob’s drawings we arrived at a finished shape which we were happy to put into production.
Rob drove the pair of dogs himself to the mould makers in Stoke on Trent and left them in the capable hands of Tim Perks. Tim took care of the first step in production which was to make an original block from the original models.
Initial trials were then cast by the brilliant Tony Wright. Tony then sent us these samples to make sure that we were happy with the outcome, which we were. The original block mould was next passed to Andy Leese who then created a working plaster case. The case enabled the production of working moulds for the reproduction of the individual figures. Tony then hand cast each figure from the working moulds in Earthenware slip and finishing them with a white opaque glaze. We have commissioned Tony to make us thirty pairs of the dogs for our first edition.
We are very grateful to the highly skilled mouldmakers and ceramicists who made it possible to produce our own shape, we are now looking forward to the next step – decorating them!!
Rob will be working on the new edition soon and we’ll show you the steps behind the decal and hand painting processes. If you are interested in the new edition please email info@robryanstudio.com and we will add you to the waiting list.
