Sharon Elphick Pop-Up-Pots at Ryantown
Posted by on Thursday 15th October, 2015In November Rob’s shop Ryantown will host a ceramic pop-up by artist and friend Sharon Elphick. The shop will showcase a large range of Sharon’s handmade ‘pinch pots’, each one unique.
Rob and Sharon first met when they were part of a group exhibition on Chiltern Street, London in 1996. With a large group of mutual friends they watched each others careers closely and in 2008 they became neighbouring shopkeepers on Columbia Road. Sharon vacated the street last year to focus on her own practice after having spent seven years helping other artists to promote theirs.
At the beginning of this year Sharon enrolled on a twelve week course at Turning Earth, a ceramics studio close to where she lives in Hackney, and she has been hooked ever since. She avidly posts her latest creations on social media and her wares have found a small following of ‘pinch pot’ lovers, including Rob.
Sharon has been hard at work making all of the pots for the show – it’s quite a project as she plans to make over 60! Here are some of the first she has created for Ryantown, we can’t wait to see them all together.
Ryantown has previously exhibited work by the ethical taxidermist Jazmine Miles-Long, illustrator Sarah Lippett and artist Martin Grover.
‘Pop-Up-Pots’ runs for three weekends from 14th – 29th November at Ryantown, 126 Columbia Road, London, E2 6QE.
Open Saturday 12 – 6pm, Sunday 10 – 4pm and by appointment Mon – Fri (email info@robryanstudio.com to book)
Prices start at £30.
